UNILAG Hosts 2024 Media Parley in Grand Style, Unveils Game-Changing E-Ride Fleet

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) dazzles guests at its 2024 Media Parley with a double-barrel launch: a fleet of eco-friendly electric vehicles dubbed “E-Ride” and a refreshed university logo, all signaling a bold future of innovation and sustainability.

UNILAG Goes Full-Throttle Green with E-Ride Launch at 2024 Media Parley!

When the University of Lagos (UNILAG) throws an event, expect nothing short of spectacular! On Monday, December 16, 2024, UNILAG welcomed the crème de la crème of academia, media, and innovation to its 2024 Media Parley. And trust UNILAG to go big: they unveiled an electric fleet of vehicles—aptly named “E-Ride”—that will redefine transportation on campus while leading the way toward a greener future.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, set the tone with inspiring words, emphasizing that the E-Ride launch is not just a milestone for UNILAG but a bold statement of the university's dedication to sustainability, innovation, and progress.

Why E-Ride? UNILAG's Bold Leap into the Future

The E-Ride fleet isn't just about fancy rides—it's about changing the game. UNILAG has consistently taken bold steps to build a greener campus, and this move takes things to the next level. The university previously planted 1,000 trees to reduce carbon emissions, and now, these sleek electric vehicles will further cut down pollution, ensuring the air around campus stays as fresh as that early-morning lecture breeze.

The new E-Ride system is powered by partnerships with Ogata Global Resources and Chart Eco Global Services—both proudly founded by UNILAG alumni. Now that's what we call “Akokites leading the way”!

Ride in Style and Save Some Naira

Guess what? The E-Ride vehicles are not just eco-friendly but wallet-friendly, too! Students and staff can enjoy rides at half the current fare of campus cabs. Talk about saving the planet and saving some change!

To make it even sweeter, UNILAG is empowering its Work-Study students to drive these vehicles, creating employment opportunities while keeping the initiative homegrown and efficient. And for those wondering if more rides are coming—yes! An additional 10 E-Ride units are already in the works and being assembled in China as we speak.

A Fresh Look: New Logo, New Energy

As if the E-Ride launch wasn't enough, UNILAG management also unveiled a refreshed university logo at the event. According to Prof. Ogunsola, this facelift symbolizes UNILAG's growth, innovation, and readiness to embrace the future. It's clean, modern, and speaks volumes about where the university is headed—straight to the top, if you ask us!

What's Next for UNILAG?

UNILAG isn't stopping here. With the launch of E-Ride and its revamped brand image, the university has firmly planted its flag as a leader not just in academics but also in environmental responsibility and innovation. This is just another reason why Akokites no dey carry last!

So, to the students, staff, alumni, and well-wishers: Get ready to hop on the E-Ride, soak up the greener campus vibes, and proudly say, “UNILAG is paving the future, one electric ride at a time!”
