One school, Two BGSs And Thousands of Talents: The Remarkable University of Lagos 24/25 Set.

The University of Lagos celebrates its graduands as two students from the department of Cell and Biology Genetics emerge the best graduating students with perfect GPA of 5.0 with others clinching numerous awards



The University of Lagos is known for producing some of the best minds in the country, and this year was no less, with two students achieving a historic milestone alongside thousands of other talents.

From Tuesday, January 14, to Thursday, January 16, 2025 the University of Lagos witnessed an influx of distinguished individuals from all over the world for its 55th convocation ceremonies.

You would recall that last year, the university had only one Best Graduating student however, this year was totally different

Out of the 16,409 graduating students,a total of 561 graduated with first class degrees with two exceptional students from the department of Cell biology and Genetics, Haroun Adebakin and Samuel Akinade Badekale achieving an exceptional and perhaps, unprecedented feat

Together, they achieved an unparalleled feat, a perfect GPA of 5.00, making them not only the Best Graduating students in the Faculty of Science, but also the overall Best in the whole University.

Their achievements drew admiration and recognition from all quarters, including faculty, dignitaries, parents, and the online community. They were celebrated for their intelligence, hard work, and dedication.

Their success wasn't the only highlight of the day as other students across various departments and faculties were also celebrated

The Best Graduating Students From Each Faculty

Mr. Olamide Idris Emida of the Department of Accounting topped the list, having finished with a CGPA of 4.95/5.00 and emerging the Overall Best Graduating Student in Humanities.

In the Faculty of Engineering, Mr. Rafiu Adekoya Badekale topped the Faculty’s chart as the Best Graduating Student

Amarachi Jennifer Ekeocha also led the three (3) Best Graduating students from the Faculty of Law.

Similarly, Mr. Christian Daniel Uwuagwu of the Faculty of Education finished with a CGPA of 4.78.

Mr. Ibrahim Folajumi Sefiu with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.82 emerged the Best Graduating student of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Also, Miss Victoria Opeyemi Awopetu of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, was a cynosure of attention with her remarkable academic achievements as she received numerous awards and prizes in recognition of her stellar performance.

Worthy of mention are the 18 all - female first class graduates from the department of Mass Communication, an historical feat in the prestigious Department.

Invaluable Advice for Undergraduates

During a brief discussion with the Best Graduating student in Humanities, Mr Olamide Emida and The Best Graduating student of the Department of Psychology, Mr Akinyemi Oyeyemi, both proud indigenes of Ogun state, they had these invaluable pieces of advice for undergraduates

Every achievement starts with a mere desire. So, your aspirations are your possibilities. If you remain focused and stay on track, you will get to where you want to be.

  • Be actively engaged in everything happening in school. Participate in class and outside class. Don't just pass through school. Let school pass through you
  • Study smart. Find what works and stick to it. You're unique. You don't have to use everyone's method. Craft yours.
  • Connect and build quality relationships with people. Relationships can give you what money may not give you. Especially in Nigeria.
  • Embrace challenges: Learn from setbacks. You'd win.
  • Prioritize self-care: Mind your health. You matter.

This 55th Convocation Ceremony isn’t just about degrees; it’s about honoring the years of effort, sacrifice, and resilience that define every Akokite

Their achievements serve as a source of inspiration for many undergraduates at UNILAG and across Nigeria, showing that excellence is attainable with dedication, hard work, and a positive mindset.
