President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Idris Olorunnimbe, a graduate of law from the University of Lagos, and a passionate creative, as the new Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Board. This appointment places Olorunnimbe at the helm of efforts to enhance Nigeria’s basic education system, ensuring equitable access to quality education across the country.
His Role as UBEC Chairman
As the Chairman of UBEC, Olorunnimbe will oversee policies and initiatives aimed at improving primary and junior secondary education in Nigeria. His core responsibilities include:

Coordinating federal and state education funding and intervention projects.

Before chairmanship: Olorunnimbe’s Journey
Idris Olorunnimbe’s appointment is a testament to his diverse experience and leadership across multiple industries. A graduate of Law from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), he has built a reputation for his impact in governance, entertainment, sports, and education.
Olorunnimbe gained extensive experience in public service while working as an aide to the former governor, Governor Babatunde Fashola, playing a key role in policy development and governance. He is also the founder of The Temple Company & Ogidi Studios: His contributions to Nigeria’s creative industry have been significant, supporting entertainment and sports development.
Additionally, he played a major role in the 2022 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) held in the University of Lagos and was instrumental in securing numerous sponsorships for the event, further strengthening his legacy in education and youth engagement.
With his extensive background in both the public and private sectors, Olorunnimbe’s leadership at UBEC is expected to bring innovative approaches to tackling Nigeria’s education challenges.
